Day by day itinerary
Day 1: Arusha to Miriakamba Hut

In the morning, you will be collected from your hotel and transferred to Arusha National Park. After completing the registration formalities at Momella Gate, you will set off with your guide and an armed ranger. The trail leads through verdant afromontane forest, where you may encounter wildlife such as buffalo grazing in clearings. The forest section is particularly scenic with strangler figs. In the late afternoon, you will reach a viewpoint before continuing to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut

Time: 4-5 hours

You will depart from Miriakamba Hut in the morning, initially hiking through the forest zone. As you ascend, the landscape changes to alpine desert. You will reach Saddle Hut by lunchtime. In the afternoon, there is an optional hike to the summit of Little Meru (12,532 ft / 3,820 m), offering stunning views. You will return to Saddle Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Summit Bid and Return to Miriakamba Hut

Time: 12 hours

An early start is required for the summit bid. As dawn breaks, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Kilimanjaro to the east. You will reach Socialist Peak (14,978 ft / 4,565 m) and take in the dramatic views of the crater cliffs. After taking photos at the summit, you will descend back to Saddle Hut for brunch. The journey continues down to Miriakamba Hut for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Miriakamba Hut to Arusha

Distance: 4 miles / 7 km
Time: 3-4 hours
Climate Zone: Afromontane Forest
On the final day, you will hike back through the forest to the park gate, taking about 3-4 hours. At the gate, you will say farewell to the hiking crew. After a picnic lunch and a game drive in Arusha National Park, you will be transferred back to Arusha, where you can enjoy a well-deserved shower and rest.
